Waremanni-Acra

   Charter of Wm. I. to Abbey of St. Peter, Ghent, confirming to them the land which King Edward gave them in London, namely, a portion of Waremanni-Acra with the wharf (huervo) belonging to it, and with its market rights, stalls, etc., 1081.

   Described in next charter of Hen. I. 1103-9, as the land of Wermanacra in London belonging to Gronewic and they are to hold their market-place in Gronewic (Cal. Doc. in France, ed. Round, 502-3).

   In the charter of foundation of the hospital of St. Mary Spital, 1235, mention is made of the soke of "Waremanshaker" near the lands of the hospital (Dugdale, VI. (2), 624).

   This would locate it in or near Bishopsgate Ward Without, although the mention of the wharf tends to throw doubt upon this. However, the wharf may well have been separate from the rest of the property, although appertaining to it.
