In Aldgate Ward (Hatton, 1708-O.S. 1880).Former name : "Cock Alley" (O. and M. 1677).The name is probably taken from a tenement called "the Cocke" in parish of St. Olave Hart Street, sometime belonging to the Crutched Friars, mentioned in 1566 (Lond. I. p.m. II. 53). It also formed one of the boundaries of St. Olave Hart Street parish (Strype, ed. 1720, I. ii. 41).The site is now occupied by the eastern end of Carlisle Avenue (q.v.).6) North out of Fleet Lane, in Farringdon Ward Without (O. and M. 1677-L.
