In Portsoken Ward (Strype, ed 1755-Boyle, 1799).Not named in the maps.4) West out of Philip Lane, in Cripplegate Ward Within (O. and M. 1677-Elmes, 1831).Perhaps identical with the site occupied by "le Cok in the houpe" in parish of St. Alphege mentioned in 1349 in Ct. In Aldgate Ward (Hatton, 1708-O.S. 1880).Former name : "Cock Alley" (O. and M. 1677).The name is probably taken from a tenement called "the Cocke" in parish of St. Olave Hart Street, sometime belonging to the Crutched Friars, mentioned in 1566 (Lond. I. p.m. II. 53). It also formed one of the boundaries of St. Olave Hart Street parish (Strype, ed. 1720, I. ii. 41).The site is now occupied by the eastern end of Carlisle Avenue (q.v.).6) North out of Fleet Lane, in Farringdon Ward Without (O. and M. 1677-L.
